It was early when we met. The past week had been hot and the skies clear. The sunrises perfect…
This morning, though, was different. It was dark and it was thick with the lowest of cloud. You could feel the humidity. It was as though Mother Nature was planning to replenish herself. But not yet...
Mikala and I met along the way before dawn. We were excited! We had spoken of the idea of this day for months before, yet somehow I ended up throwing it together within a few days. At the last minute we had managed to pull it even earlier because of predicted 11 foot southerly swells due in a few days. The beaches were clean and the time was now or never…
In spite of us not having a clear sunrise, the morning was moody and perfect….
The beautiful French sassy surfer chick Lili in Killalea State Park at dawn, wearing Salstore. Shop the look now.
Killalea is always beautiful. Jutting out of the craziness of the South Coast’s Shellharbour and north of Kiama, is this wild and remote wilderness with its diverse landscape and jaw-droppingly stunning surf beaches. Killelea was the perfect choice.
So minus the sunrise, we set to work on the beginning of our SUMMER 2018 campaign. I really wanted to profile as many awesome sustainable labels as possible and also to feature Salstore, a gorgeous boutique surf label from Brazil, which to date, Indigo and Salt has been their only stockist in Australia.
With four girls and half a day, it wasn't going to be an easy feat!

It’s amazing the people that come into your life. We were throwing four local girls together in front of the camera for the first time today and it felt fabulous! Lauren, Elise, Lili and Sammi…
THE girls... The four best girls in the world getting ready for some early morning fun. Shop all these looks.
Lauren, like Mikala, is a dear friend of mine. The three of us met a few years back through Surfing Mums, a fabulous organization that helps mothers stay in the water. Loz and I hit it off straight away. We just clicked. From then on we went on to co-found Indigo and Salt together.

Lauren stepped away from the business earlier this year and you catch her very rarely on land these days. She’s more at home grabbing her stoke in many of the line-ups along the Illawarra Coal Coast.
Elise in Zea Swim. Shop the look now.
Elise, stumbled upon both of us very early into the I+S journey. We warmed to her straight away. Her obsession with life is totally infectious and she wears her radiant soul like an aura of the purest colours imaginable. She is our earth-mother and being addicted to sliding, she made the perfect choice.
Sammi mixes Lemon Spicy with May and Hugo
Sammi, hails from Cronulla but spends most of her time on the South Coast catching waves and hanging with mates. A talented designer with an eye for detail, she and Elise had met years ago in the surf. Since then they have formed a really lovely friendship so we all really stoked when Sammi said she was super keen to join us.
Lili wears May and Hugo
Lili, our gorgeous French sass, is another Thirroul local. Amazingly all our paths had only crossed on Instagram of all places. She is a super keen surfer and a skater and we couldn't wait to hit the water with her.
Keeping it real. Elise's van was perfect for an early morning giggle and a catch-up.
Today was about all of us having fun. No egos, no model poses, no contorting… The only brief was “let’s go catch some waves and have fun!”
There's always time for a selfie!
Once we all were suited up and ready to go, we hit the beach!

Shakas and peace out!
The waves looked small but super fun and we were all itching to get out there!!
Sammi found herself some Bees Knees Surf Wax and the girls quickly waxed down their boards...

Finally it was time to hit the surf! The wind was about to change and we really wanted to experience the glassy conditions for ourselves!

Lili strapped on her leggie and she was in! Like magic, the sun broke through as soon as her board touched the water.
The swell was super clean and so much fun! It was time to party and the girls did exactly that!
First wave was a partywave!!
Poor Lili didn't have a chance on her shortboard but she gave it a red hot go anyway!
The girls danced their way to shore...
Stoked!
Partywave after partywave… The magic was infectious!
The stoke was epic and the air was alive!
We were all peaking! So much fun! The vibe was infectious and so so real. Mikala, pregnant with her second child, was working so hard with her camera. You could see by the grin from ear to ear that she was having just as much fun as the rest of us!
With lunchtime and real life looming, it was time to call it a day. As we debriefed over lunch out of the back of our cars, the stoke was firmly etched within all of us. We couldn't wipe the smiles from our faces and we were already planning when we could do this all over again!
Best. Day. Ever!!
