Who are you?
Human Being: Samantha Dewhurst, who can most likely be found in and around the ocean.
Please tell us a little bit about you…
When I’m not in the ocean you can find me in the studio, creating art or designing.
I strive on working with projects surrounding sustainable entrepreneurship and awareness. Art and design has always been a love and passion so being able to work with clients to help create or develop an new idea through visual communication can be pretty powerful.
Where are you based?
The coastal town of Cronulla, South of Sydney.
"Van Diesel" is also a home base…it has four wheels, room for plenty of boards a comfy bed and takes me wherever there is swell.
Where do you call home?
We are constantly changing and evolving, so being at peace with yourself allows you to feel at home wherever you are regardless of postal address…However a place surrounded by; family, friends good food and a cosy bed also classifies.

What led you to surfing?
My dad led me, but my drive comes from somewhere else.
Why do you surf?
It’s fun, thats it.
If your not having fun then I would consider getting a mal or surf mat..those can be a lot of fun!
How does it enrich your life?
It builds curiosity, maybe that’s why I like cats?
Regardless, whether it be; people, places or waves, each experience feeds curiosity.
Other hobbies?
Apart from roaming the globe when I can!?! (which led me to driving 30hrs in 3 days to Uluru late last year with a friend… )
Brewing tea for friends and making my bed is pretty satisfying. (I’m not ninety…but I do love herbal tea a freshly made bed.)
What makes your heart sing?
The helpers, there’s soo much power and grace coming out of soo many people with soo much to lose. It is the people making brave choices everyday.
Where is your favourite place you've travelled?’
Kauai. One part of the Hawaiian Islands in the Central Pacific.
It is an oasis filled with smiling faces and natural beauty.
Where do you see women’s surfing in ten years?
Variety, with power and grace.
Freedom with growth.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I don’t believe in destinations, everything is a process.
I do have long-term ideas about where life could take me, which creates very natural pathways on how to get there. So hopefully this journey has new experiences, learnings, connections, growth, change and a lot of creative collaboration for the greater good.
What future do you see re sustainability and environmental issues?
If you look into the horror of what has happened or what could happen you get run over by it. that’s a lesson in resilience. There is soo much power, empathy and change happening for the greater good coming from people everywhere right now. Thats worth a fight every day. I want to learn how to fight better.
