Who are you?

I am Lili Coffin. I am 28 years old and I am from France.  I grew up in a small town, which is located one hour from Paris.

Please tell me a bit about you...

I arrived in Australia in 2012, a year after I met my Australian boyfriend in Portugal. I studied art and interior design in Paris and in Australia I worked for Australian Surf Tours as a digital marketing manager.  At the beginning of 2019 I relocated back to France and have settled in Hossegor.

Where is home for you?

I lived in Thirroul on the South Coast of New South Wales for three years before recently relocating back to France.  I am currently living in Hossegor.

As we say home is where the heart is....

What led you to surfing?

I grew up watching this TV series called Summerland where a family of surfers lived in California.

This series made me discover surfing and made me book a surf camp in Portugal where I tried surfing for the first time. That sounds funny but this cheesy show 15 years ago made me dream of a different life and helped shape the one I live today.

Why do you surf?

I surf because every surfing day is a good day and every day should count.

How does it enrich your life?

Surfing has totally changed my life in many different ways.. I met my boyfriend through surfing and he has challenged me to live the life I dreamt of. Now, I live on the other side of the world with him.

I have forgotten the Parisian dress code and have adopted the surfing one, without shoes and salty hair and I couldn't be happier!

What other hobbies do you have?

I like cruising on my skateboard, snowboarding, horse riding.... (I grew up horse riding.)

I like tennis.  I like practising yoga to control my mind and my breathing.  I like drawing and painting, and I play the piano too.

Where is the place you've most loved to travel to?

My favourite place that I have travelled to is South Africa. My mother grew up there and I had always dreamt to visit one day. Last August I did some volounteer work in Jeffreys Bay where I had the chance to watch J Bay pumping and I surfed Kitchen Windows.

Going on a safari was also a blast.

Do you have a favourite quote?

My favourite quote is, "You can do anything you set your mind to." - Benjamin Franklin

What makes your heart sing?

My heart sings when I surf perfect waves in a bikini!

Where do you see women's surfing in ten years?

In 10 years I see women's surfing as big as the men's surfing, because every day I am seeing more and more girls in the line up waiting for some waves. It's great to see this movement as I think the line up is definitely friendlier with women in it.

Role models, such as Stephanie Gilmore, are fantastic for womens surfing.  They mix elegance, style and performance, which I find inspiring. In terms of competitive surfing, women are becoming stronger and faster and seem to be progressing at a rate where they're catching up to the men.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

In ten years, I still see myself still in the surf industry.  I'd like to create a brand that represents my values and style and, why not like indigoandsalt, support the protection of the environment..

What future do you see re sustainability and environmental issues?

Sustainability and environmental protection is a long topic..

Everyone can do their little part, like stopping using plastic bags and picking up rubbish on the beach, but we really need the big governments of the world to show some leadership and make the right decisions. It's good that some companies like Indigo and Salt are taking the intiative to show the right model that everyone should follow.. Their bikinis are classic, a great fit and on top I feel proud wearing them knowing that they come from a sustainable source.
